Growth of Telecommunications Systems
Books Wright, Michael and Mukul Patel. 2000. Scientific American ââ¬â How Things Work Today. London: Marshall Publishing Ltd. B. 1 The world is currently in the middle of a communications revolution as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution that created our modern society two centuries ago. The growth of telecommunications systems, the arrival of the Internet, and the proliferation of computers in every aspect of our lives are transforming both industrial and knowledge-based economies round the world. Higher disposable incomes and increased leisure time are also fuelling demand for luxury electronic goods and new forms of entertainment.Since the British inventor Alexander Graham Bell patented the telephone in 1877, telephony has become the most important form of distance communication. The telephone network is now truly global, with submarine cables and communications satellites linking every continent. This globe-spanning network handles phone calls, fax transmissions, and intern et traffic. The long-distance ââ¬Å"backbonesâ⬠of the telephone network are high capacity optical-fiber cables. Lower-capacity copper cables connect individual phones to the network. The analog signal from an ordinary phone is sampled 4,000 times per second and converted into an 8-bit ddigital signal.Several conversations can then be transmitted simultaneously down the same cable, using a technique known as multiplexing, which increases the capacity of the network. Routing calls through the telephone network is done automatically be telephone exchanges. In near future, the telephone network may also carry video and music channels, interactive televisions, videophone calls. Analog signal ââ¬â Analog electric signals from ordinary phones are carried by copper cable to the local exchange. Base station ââ¬â The base station receiving the sthrongest signal from a cell phone routes the call to the cell phone exchange.Cell ââ¬â The cell phone network is divided into hexa gonal cells, each with a base station in the middle. Cell phone exchange ââ¬â Calls are routed to the main exchange or direct to a base station by the cell phone exchange. Cell phone network ââ¬â Base stations send ddigital information to the cell phone exchange over optical-fiber or copper cable. Communication satellite ââ¬â Orbiting satellites are used to route calls between places not linked by a cable. Ddigital signal ââ¬â Ddigital information is multiplexed, allowing multiple signals to be transmitted simultaneously. Fax machine ââ¬â Fax transmissions are sent over the telephone network.Line-of-sight microwave link ââ¬â Digitized call from local exchanges are often routed to the main exchange via terrestrial microwave links. Local exchange ââ¬â The local exchange digitizes calls for long-distance transmission. Long-distance or international connection ââ¬â Optical fibers are used to transmit long-distance calls, many optical fiber cables are laid on the seabed. Main exchange ââ¬â The main exchange handles communications between ordinary phones and the cell phone network and routes long-distance and international calls. Microwaves ââ¬â Ddigital information is sent from cell phones to base stations using microwave frequencies.Moving cell phone ââ¬â Mobility is the prime asset of the cell phone. Optical fibers ââ¬â Transmitting ddigital information by light pulses enables many calls to be sent down one fiber simultaneously. Satellite uplink ââ¬â Encrypted ddigital information is sent to satellites using microwave frequencies. Seamless reconnection ââ¬â As the cell phone moves from one cell to another, the call is rerouted from one base station to the next, without the break in the conversation. Urban cell ââ¬â Cell are smaller in urban areas, giving the network greater capacity. Weakening Signal ââ¬â As the cell phone moves farther away from the base station, the signal weakens. ââ¬â- Tanenb aum, Andrew S. and Maareten van Steen. 2002. Distributed Systems Principles and Paradigms. New Jersey: Prentice-Hall, Inc. B. 2 A process is often defined as a program in execution, that is, a program that is currently being executed on one of the operating systemââ¬â¢s virtual pprocessors. An important issue is that the operating system takes great care to ensure that independent processes cannot maliciously or inadvertently affect the correctness of each otherââ¬â¢s behavior. In other words, the fact that multiple processes may be concurrently sharing the same CPU and other hardware resources is made transparen't.Usually, the operating system requires hardware support to enforce this separation. B. 2 Threads in Distributed Systems ââ¬â An important property of threads is that they can provide a convenient mearns of allowing blocking system calls without blocking the entire process in which the thread is running. This property makes threads particularly attractive to use in distributed systems as it makes it much easier to express communication in the form of maintaining multiple logical connections at the same time. We illustrate this point by taking a closer look at multithreaded clients and servers, respectively. B. 2Clients and Servers ââ¬â In the basic client-server model, processes in a distributed system are divided into two (possibly overlapping) groups. A server is a process implementing a specific service, for example, a file system service or a database service. A client is a process that requests a service from a server by sending it a request and subsequently waiting for the serverââ¬â¢s reply. This client-server interaction, also known as request-reply behavior. B. 2Communication between a client and a server can be implemented by mearns of a simple connectionless protocol when the underlying network is fairly reliable as in many local-area networks. In these cases, when a client requests a service, it simply packages a message f or the server, identifying the service it wants, along with the necessary input data. The message in then sent to the server. The latter, in turn, will always wait for an incoming request, subsequently process it, and package the results in a reply message that is then sent to the client. Page 657 Communication ââ¬â All communication in the Web between clients and servers is based on the Hypertext transfer Protocol (HTTP). HTTP is a relatively simple client-server protocol; a client sends a request message to a server and waits for a response message. An important property of HTTP is that it is stateless. In other words, it does not have any concept of open connection and does not require a server to maintain information on its clients. The most recent version of HTTP is described in (Fielding et al. , 1999). Page 648 The World Wide Web (WWW) can be viewed as a huge distributed system consisting of millions of clients and servers for accessing linked documents. Servers maintain c ollections of documents, while clients provide users an easy-to-use interface for presenting and accessing those documents. The Web started as a project at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, to let its large and geographically dispersed group of researchers provide access to shared documents using a simple hypertext system. A document could be anything that could be displayed on a userââ¬â¢s computer terminal, such as personal notes, reports, figures, blueprints, drawings, and so on. By linking documents to each other, it became easy to iintegrate documents from different projects into a new document without the necessity for centralized changes. The only thing needed was to construct a document providing links to other relevant documents (see also Berners-Lee et al. , 1994). Since 1994, Web developments are primarily initiated and controlled by the World Wide Web Consortium, a collaboration between CERN and M. I. T. this consortium is responsible for standar dizing protocols, improving interoperability, and further enhancing the capabilities of the Web. Its home page can be found at http://www. w3. org/. ââ¬âââ¬â London, Sherry. 2000. Illustrator 9 f/x & Design. Arizona: The Coriolis Group, LLC. Page 427 Image resolution seems to be a tricky and complex topic the most people.I usually urge folks to work in pixels inside the Photoshop because pixels are fixed: A 900-pixel-wide image contains 900 pixels, regardless of its ppl. However, if the ppl is set to 300, the 900-pixel image prints at 3 inches wide; if the ppl is set to 100, the 900-pixel image prints 9 inches wide ââ¬â but it still contains only 900 pixel across. Therefore, I find it much easier to think in pixels. ââ¬âââ¬â Harb, M. 1989. Modern Telephony. New Jersey: Prentice-Hall, Inc. Page 9 The Telephone of Today The end user or subscriber is the main concern in any communication link. The subscriber can be either a private part or a business. In all cases, t he telephone set is used to transmit and receive, sequentially or simultaneously. The Telephone Set The telephone set is an instrument used to transmit and receive information or calls sequentially or simultaneously, thus permitting one party to communicate with another. For this communicate to take place, the telephone set must have the following component: a transmitter, a receiver, bell, a dialer, and a switchhook. Page 150-152 Cellular mobile communication is considered to be the breakthrough that could revolutionize the way businesses think about and use the most common of communication tools ââ¬â the telephone. The cellular mobile telephone is found most often in cars, using low-power radio-frequency carriers to transmit and receive messages in small geographical units called cells. Before the introduction of cellular technology, most North American cities were using high-power radio-frequency transmitters for mobile telephone transmission. Even if a subscriber was lucky en ough to have the service, the number of channels was limited, and consequently the possibility of having access to a free line was very slim. Furthermore, once the subscriber got access to a line, the voice quality was poor and privacy almost nonexistent. This is not the case with the cellular mobile system. With the new technology, subscribers are guaranteed access to a free line 99. 9% of the time. The quality of the voice is comparable to that of regular telephone transmission, and privacy is guaranteed. Cellular mobiles became available in the United States in 1979, when Ameritech Mobile Communications began serving 2000 subscribers in the city of Chicago. By 1985, over 30,000 subscribers in the United Stated were using cellular mobiles, and this number continues to grow in the United States as well as in Canada, the European nations, Japan, and many more.Operation of a Cellular Mobile System Since is not feasible to set up a communication link between two moving cars using a sta ndard telephone line, it is necessary to use a wireless system with a radio antenna to send and receive telephone conversation over the air. The term ââ¬Å"cellularâ⬠is derived from the word ââ¬Å"cell. â⬠Cities or towns are divided into geographic areas called cells, each with its own transmitter and receiver. Each cell has a low-power transmission capability, thus making its signal too weak to interfere with other cells with ssimilar frequencies.Generally, the frequency occupied by two subscribers within the same cell cannot be used by any other subscribers within that cell. The diagram of a cellular system shown in Figure 12. 1 demonstrates the process of relaying messages from car telephone (or portable telephone) to the cell siteââ¬â¢s low-powered transmitter, to the Cantel switching office or MTSO (mobile telephone switching office), and to the wireline telephone companyââ¬â¢s switching office, to allow interconnection with the existing telephone system. Th e message is ââ¬Å"handed offâ⬠from one cell site transmitter to the next as the caller crosses a cell boundary, without interruption.A master computer keeps track of which cells are using which frequencies (see Figure 12. 1), and when a subscriber wishes to call a subscriber outside his or her cell, the computer may reassign frequencies. As a subscriber moves from one cell to the next, the assigned frequency may change, but the subscriber will at all times be served without interference (Figure 12. 2). ââ¬âââ¬â Meyers, Mike. 2003. Introduction to PC Hardware and Troubleshooting. Asia: McGraw-Hill / Osborne. Page 390 Much of what makes modern computers so powerful is their ability to connection in small or large groups, or networks, and share files and resources.Every PC tech worth knowing the basics of networking. After all, why get into computing if you canââ¬â¢t while away an afternoon gaming with your buddies, all from the comfort of your computer chair? How Ne tworks Work A network enables two or more computers to share data, hardware such as printers, and even applications. The computers must have some conneactivity, of course: some way for the signal from one machine to reach the other. In addition, the hardware must be compatible and the software set up so that the receiving computer can understand what the sending machine sends.Think of two kids chatting over walkie-talkie as a network for communication to occur, the hardware has to be in range for the signal, and it has to be from the same set, and the kids need to speak the same language. Networks work ssimilarly. Computers connect in two basic ways: In dial-up networks in Local Area Networks. In dial-up connection, your computer uses a telephone line to connect to an Internet Service Provider (ISP), which then gives you access to other computers, perhaps at your office or somewhere on the Internet.Computers in a Local Area Network, on the other hand, are connected to a central box ââ¬â either by cables or by radio waves ââ¬â through which they can communicate with each other and, if some machine on the network has the appreciate connection, with other computers on the Internet. Letââ¬â¢s look at how both types of network function before we turn to the nuts and bolts of installing and setting up networks. Dial-Up Networks The most common network connection consists of three pieces: a modem, a working telephone line, and an ISP.The modem enables the computer to communicate via phone lines. The phone line provides the link between the modem and the computers at the ISP. The ISP computers connect to the Big Kahuna of all networks, the Internet. Property installed you to surf, shop, and otherwise explore websites hosted by computers all over the world. Tune in and turn on to dial-up networking. The venerable modem has to recent years been challenged by two new consumer technologies for accessing the Internet so-called ââ¬Å"cable-modemsâ⬠and DSL (Ddigital Subscriber Line) service.Your computerââ¬â¢s basic need for some kind of pipeline to communicate over hasnââ¬â¢t charged ââ¬â just the choice of pipeline and the way itââ¬â¢s used. Both technologies take advantage of unused capacity on widely available transmission media. Cable modems use the cables already in place in many homes for receiving cable TV signals as their pipeline to the Internet, rather than the telephone system. The cable TV companies take advantage of the fact that their cable TV signals occupy only a fraction of the capacity of the coaxial cables running into your home.Adding a cable modem to your computer enables it to use the cable TV connection as its pipeline to the Internet. Cable modems arenââ¬â¢t actually ââ¬Å"modemsâ⬠at all in the sense that the signals they send and receive are entirely ddigital, but because they perform the same function, they go by the same name. you can install an external cable modem to a port (usually USB) on your computer. Page 394 Modem Technology The modem solves one of the problems with the use of analog voice lines to move ddigital data. Modems take incoming analog serial data ââ¬â in this case, the signal coming over the telephone line- and turn it into ddigital serial data.Likewise, modems turn the signal flowing out of the PC into analog data than can be transferred over the telephone line. This process ââ¬â called modulation / demodulation ââ¬â provides the name for the technology: MOdulation / DEModulation, get it! Phone lines have a speed based on a unit called a baud, which is one cycle per second. The fastest rate that a phone line can achieve is 2,400 baud. Modem can pack multiple bits of data into each baud; a 33. 6 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem, for example, packs 14 bits into every baud: 2,400 x 14 = 33. 6 Kbps.It is technically incorrect to say, ââ¬Å"I have a 56 K baud modem. â⬠You should instead say, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢I have a 56 Kbps modem . â⬠However, people use the term baud instead of bps so other that the terms have become functionally synonymous. Page 415 A network enables two or more computers to share data, hardware such as printers, and even applications. Computers connect in two basic ways: dial-up networks and Local Area Networks. A standard dial-up network connection consists of these pieces: a modem, a working telephone line, and an Internet Service Provider (ISP).To make a LAN work, you need to ensure those things: conneactivity, compatibility, and proper setup of hardware and software. Data is broken up and sent between computers in small chunks called packets and then reassembled. Page 1 Everything in your computer fits into one of two categories: hardware or software. Anything on your computer that you can touch is hardware. However, hardware alone cannot handle all of the PCââ¬â¢s complex activities ââ¬â it needs the help of software. Software is the technical word for computer programs, the sets of instructions that tell the hardware how to do things.Computer programs are often compared to cooking rrecipes. The recipe tells you how to use the tools to manipulate the ingredients, and if all goes well, you produce something edible. In the same way, software instruct the hardware has it manipulates data to produce the desired results, whether thatââ¬â¢s a memo, a ddigital picture, or an email message. Figure 1. 1 shows a sample of program code. ââ¬âââ¬â Stamper, David A. 2001. Local Area Networks ââ¬â Third Edition. New Jersey: Prentice-Hall, Inc. Page 135-137 Classes of Software The reason for having a computing system is to solve problems and accomplish the businessââ¬â¢ work. The software that does this is called application software. Ordinarily, application software operates in an environment that makes writing and using the application software easier. The environment-creating software can be separated into network management, development and net work access. Application Software As we mentioned at the beginning of this section, the main reason we use computing system is to solve business or scientific problems. Thus, the computer and its extension, the network, are simply problem-solving tools.Tthroughout history, humankind has constantly built new tools and improved on those already invented. At the beginning of the computer era, computers were quite primitive tools (at least by todayââ¬â¢s standards). Programmers at the dawn of the computing age needed to know not only the nuances of the business problem they were solving but also many of the intricacies of the hardware their solution would be running on. In todayââ¬â¢s application environment, we have a supporting cast of software that helps to create an application environment that is mostly hardware independent.Operating System Software Today, we are so need to using OSs to create the system environment that we take them for granted. However, we were into the sec ond generation of computers before OSs appeared and into the third generation of computers before OSs became common. You may correctly infer from this that OSs are not absolutely necessary and, in the early years of personal computing, a vvariety of applications run without using the services of an OS. The IBM Personal Computer (PC) came equipped with a BASIC interpreter in a read-only memory. Thus, if you did not have the disk operating system (DOS), you could still use your computer by writing and running BASIC programs. Without DOS, BASIC was the operating environment. Furthermore, a few early programs functioned in a stand-alone mode. These programs where on a diskette and were loaded when the computer was loaded. In this mode, if you wanted to run another program, you swapped disk and rebooted. Without an OS, the application program is responsible for accomplishing many hardware-oriented functions such as input/output (I/O) and memory management.Because these task are common to all applications, software engineers developed OS software. The OS manages the resources of the computer and creates an application environment in which it is easier to develop and use application software because the OS takes care of a vvariety of functions formerly done by applications. Some of these functions are: â⬠¢ Memory management â⬠¢ File management â⬠¢ User interface â⬠¢ I/O interfaces â⬠¢ Resource allocation â⬠¢ Accounting â⬠¢ Protection/security Today, systems running on a LAN are more sophisticated that the early systems that ran without an OS; a LAN node without an OS is unthinkable.Memory Management ââ¬â When the computer is started, the OS is loaded into memory a certain portion of the available memory is constantly occupied by the resident portion of the OS. The OS manages the remaining memory and allocates it among itself and the requesting processes according to a memory management scheme adopted by the OS designers. Most current OS s use a memory management algorithm called virtual memory. With virtual memory, the disk is used as an extension of real memory. A process may be thought of as consisting of pages of data and code.File Management ââ¬â A disk is a raw storage device. It has the ability to store bits of data but inherently does not have the ability to organize those bits into files, files into directories, and so on. The OS provides this level of disk organization. it establish the data structure that allows users to create partitions, directories volumes, and other disk subdivisions. Some file management systems allow multiple disks to be combines into one logical disk. The file management system allows users to create, delete, and access files. The file management system maintains the directory structure and store directory and file information such as the date and time last modified, end-of-file pointer, and the file or directoriesââ¬â¢ locations on disk. Obviously, there are fundamental aspe cts of using a system. User Interface ââ¬â When a programmer begins to write a program, an environment is created for that user. If you are a programmer, you may need to use a text editor, compiler, link editor, and application program interface (API), which allows you to use OS procedures to carry out activities such as creating a new file, or starting a new process.Sometimes a compiler or interpreter includes the API interfaces. Protection Security ââ¬â Today, nearly everyone is aware that security is an important aspect of computer usage. The OS provides the base on which security is established. We expect the OS to prevent user programs from crashing the system and to eliminate the intrusion of one program into the memory occupied by another programââ¬â¢s data. In shared systems, we also expect the OS and the file management system to provide certain levels of file security. Commonly, an OS will at least provide capabilities that allow administrators to define which u sers can read, write, or erase a file.

Emo Culture
In todayââ¬â¢s society there are many different subculture tendencies amongst young people, they are various and interpenetrating, but to the bigger part of them is leading the element music and above all such kind of music, that is with a history of many years, transformed in classic for many generations. But recently one very different from the entire subcultures tendencies phenomenon, called emo style, especially strongly caused a sensation. It is different not only at the way of clothing, at the type of music preferences, at the type of behavior, but it is different at the way, it understands the world and itself. It is one ââ¬Å"sadâ⬠subculture to a great degree namely because of the way, it perceives the ambient reality. The emo subculture is a combination from the punk rock and the hardcore tendencies. From etymological point of view the name emocore comes from emotional hardcore and its roots are in Washington in the middle of 80s. For founders of the emocore tendency could be shown Rites of Spring, Embrace and Rain. Gradually with the notion emocore they start to define themselves hardcore punk bands, which start to add melodic elements to their songs. The sadness, the love, the sense of guilt is the basic topic in the lyrics of the emocore. The emo style could be qualified as ââ¬Å¾rock music with emotional-lyric elementsâ⬠. But this couldnââ¬â¢t be a final definition, because the debates about the definition of the emo subculture still continue. The emo culture continues to develop and in 90s till today it continues to be popular for the young people. A whole teenage generation succeeds the name emo and the young people start to call themselves emos. The melodramatic behavior and clothes introduce a new taste to the music. This subculture is maybe one of the most popular and the most obsessing the mind of young people today. At first considered as a music genre, the emocore today is a subculture phenomenon that unifies music, behavior, fashion, style and way of life. The values, expressed through the music, consist in emotional topics, often associated with the despair, the nostalgia, the broken heart, the hope and the self hatred. Emo-tional fashionâ⬠¦ Interesting and contradictory is the fashion of the emo representatives. Staggering hair styles, combined with sport clothing, with many accessories and a strong make-up ââ¬â these are the most distinctive characteristics of the emo fashion that has its varieties and modifications. One of the most important signs, characterizing the emo subculture is the way of forming of the hair. The emo hair styles are unisex ââ¬â they are suitable as for girls, as for boys. Usually the emo hair cut is short, colored in black or at the worst in dark red. Every day to the emo maniac are necessary tons of gel, to make his hair cut in the possible most cult way. A typical particularity of the emo hair style is the bang. It is maybe the longest element of the emo hair that is put closely over the one eye, as in this way it covers almost the half of the face. Usually it is straighten with the help of a press and it is fixed with gel or wax. The hair at the back is disheveled, again fixed with different styling products. In the virtual space every one emo candidate could find precise advises in his search how to be emo. It exist many movies that explain by visual methods how to be made the hair style at home, what kind of hairstyling products to be used etc. To make a real emo hair cut it is not necessary the intervention of a hair stylist ââ¬â it is necessary a little bit imagination and the help of one good friend. Other, also very interesting for examination element from the image of the emo representative is the clothing. Tight jeans and t-shirts, with printed name of the favorite emocore band, skate sneakers, many-colored stockings, a great variety of accessories, badges, bracelets ââ¬â these and many others interesting attributes characterize the image of the emo-tional young person. As a whole the emos donââ¬â¢t give a great amount of money for clothes, they tend even to make the clothes, that they will wear, by hand ââ¬â one more sign of their irregularity. The emos arenââ¬â¢t slaves of some brand, those sneakers they have to possess at any price. Bracelets, belts with caps, hats ââ¬â all these accessories are various and multicolored and they contradict to the tortured and lacerated soul of the emo representative. Also very significant accessory is the ring, piercing the lower lip of the young subculture person. The emo-tional nature of the subculture youthâ⬠¦ At their nature the emo representatives are extremely sensitive characters. The psychologists define them as introverts, who donââ¬â¢t want to communicate with the ambient world. Because of that they find a field of manifestation in the poetry. The poems that they write are dark, dispiriting, depressive and they inspire sadness and nostalgia. In this respect they to a great degree resemble to the Goths. The life and the pain are basic topics in the poetry of the young creators. The specialists advise the parents to pay more attention to their subculture person at home, because namely this way of living of the young people leads to things, for those Iââ¬â¢ll speak down below in the text and that are incorrigible In fact this type young people, as all the rest, need love and seek it all the time. Just in the process of this search they fall into the dark bottom of their souls and they suffer desperately. They suffer, they cry and they listen to their favorite emocore bands ââ¬â the only ones that understand them. For all these emotions, characteristic for the emos, it is especially important the moment with the age. Usually the emo maniacs are between 12- and 18-years-old, when they are especially emotionally and psychically unstable and namely this tendency is the vent for the most young emo adherents. When we add to this the factor ââ¬Å¾family problemsâ⬠the receipt is perfectly made and the real emocore representative is ready. Many stereotypes exist for the emo subculture like for the other subcultures. For example could serve the suicides, the vampire character of the preaching by them ideas and many others. Of course, there are young people, who take destructive for them decisions, but we canââ¬â¢t say, that all of them take the same decisions. On the contrary ââ¬â this is one very interesting, to some degree new and unexplored subculture tendency that we donââ¬â¢t have to ignore, but to try to understand. Except the music and the poetry it exist one more place, where the emo representatives feel good. This is MySpace ââ¬â in this community they can really find followers in the ramblings of their minds. The dangerous emo subcultureâ⬠¦ The emo subculture got very popular in the last years with some negative events that had shaken the parents and the society. It is found to be that the values and the beliefs that he emo culture preaches are extremely dangerous the most for the health and for the life of the young people. But here it is not about alcohol and cigarett?s, but for something more dangerous and frightening, called suicide. The emo communities decide their problems as they commit suicide by rituals. Even in Bulgaria these tragic events are a fact, to which we become witnesses ââ¬Å¾thanksâ⬠to the media. Before some months two 14-year-old girls horrified the society, cutting ritually their veins. The motto that they believed in was ââ¬Å¾The kitchen, the knife, the veins, end of the problems! â⬠And this is not the only case. In the virtual space the information for such tragic events flows. The emos believed, that after their death they will be regenerated and they will go to a better world. Many sites and bloggs for the emo culture use quite scaring backgrounds that couldnââ¬â¢t be passed so easily by psychologists and other specialists in this area. Animated sites flow where for background are used children with gun points at their temples, broken hearts and blood. This is one more sign, that is evidence about the dangerous philosophy of the emocore representatives ââ¬â and namely the suicide. In the media are often found articles with alarming headings and shocking photo material, that have for purpose to wake the sleeping social and parent conscience and to tell how suffer their children and how much they need the parentââ¬â¢s love. However namely because of the creation of negative aura around the topic emo subculture it start to be published materials, examining the emo subculture like every one normal youth subculture with its moment character and sensibility, with its transience and colorfulness, with its poetics and many-siding. The emo subculture ââ¬â dangerous or saving lifeâ⬠¦ After all this, now in front of us is standing the question to what degree to scare from this tendency, to what degree the children have to be protected and how to be transformed the negativism in this tendency in positivism. The emo culture is extremely excite, many-facing and various. But there exist deep-seated negative directions of thinking, that the young person have to bear in mind and not to be amenable to them. Every one teenager has the right to be such as he wants to be, independently to what subcuture tendency he is an adherent. The important is to be happy of what he is, of the life he lives and of what he believes in. The young person should believe in good, in beautiful and in positive. The emo subculture is also such kind of subculture. Let young people achieve to get only its good thingsâ⬠¦

Pride and Prejudice and the Relationships of Women and Men Essay
In the book Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen there are many relationships between men and women. This book was originally entitled First Impressions and when reading it is easy to understand how this title could be aptly appropriate to the story line and characters. In these relationships one of the things that can be noted is that men are primarily looking for sex and that women are looking for resources. There are several character relationships in the story that exemplify this theory. These relationships include the relationship between Charlotte and Mr. Collins, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, and Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. There are many examples as to how these relationships truly do exemplify the theory that women use relationships to find resources and men use relationships to find sex (LeFraye, Chapter 1). In the relationship of Charlotte and Mr. Collins there is much speculation throughout the story as to whether or not they are really in love. This can be exemplified through looking at their interactions together and focusing on what they do not have. There are many cases where it is obvious that Charlotte wants to be married and that she is trying to fulfill her motherââ¬â¢s dream of her being married off. Also Charlotte seems to ravish in the idea that someone else could take care of her. As for Mr. Collins, there is much detail linked to his attraction to Charlotte and being attracted to her could promote a stronger desire in him to fulfill his sexual desires with her. Also prior to Mr. Collins being with Charlotte, Mr. Collins was more interested in Elizabeth who continuously denied him and didnââ¬â¢t want to be with him. This further promotes that Mr. Collins did not show that he was truly in love with Charlotte in the story (Austen 211). There were many other key points that were involved in the relationship between Mr. Collins and Charlotte. This relationship between Charlotte and Mr. Collins did cause some problems for Charlotte as her sister was disappointed in her in that she felt that Charlotte should hold out for true love and really find someone who was smitten with her where as Charlotte seemed ready to settle in a desperate attempt to be married and no longer have to worry about whether or not she was going to have to take care of herself. Charlotte seemed to be comforted by the fact that someone was offering to really take care of her and focus their energies on her well being. In this fact it seems as though Charlotte was truly willing to settle for anything when it came to being taken care of and Mr. Collins was happy settling for Charlotte whom he found attractive and yet he was also able to encourage a relationship where he would be able to have passion in his own eyes. This relationship personifies the trend of the times that was when someone married for economic reasons rather than marrying for love (ââ¬Å"Pride and Prejudiceâ⬠3). In the relationship of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy there are many different factors affecting how things. In the beginning it seems as though Elizabeth can not stand Mr. Darcy, ââ¬Å"as if intending to exasperate herself as much as possible against Mr. Dacry. â⬠There were many other statements in the novel which would lead one to believe that Elizabeth indeed can not stand Mr. Darcy. There are also statements in the novel to support that Mr. Darcy feels likewise and the same and that he too has no intentions of having a relationship with Elizabeth. ââ¬Å"Mr. Darcy, who was leaning against the mantle-piece with his eyes fixed on her face, seemed to catch her words with no less resentment than surprise. His complexion became pale with anger, and the disturbance of his mind was visible in every feature. â⬠The problems between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy seemed to be that they both were head strong and had big personalities in which they were not interested in being able to engage in a relationship together (Austen 313 and 314). Later through the novel the relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy develops and eventually, the second time that he proposes, they decide to be married. In this sense it seems as though Elizabeth holds out on marrying him until she believes that he is willing to initiate a relationship with her and he is willing to respect her for her thoughts and beliefs and not simply that he is attracted to her or wanting to be with her in a relationship. Another key factor in this relationship is that Elizabeth finds Mr. Darcy to be attractive, even when she is unhappy with who she thinks he is as a person, she still thinks that he is good looking. There are also a lot of issues in this sense as Elizabeth talks a lot throughout the first chapters about her opinions of others and she does not truly give others a chance to develop as she bases most of her long term impressions on others on the first impression which they make. Overall this relationship personifies a successful relationship between a man and a woman under the pretense that there has to be a long term connection and something more than initial attraction in order to have a successful relationship and marriage (ââ¬Å"Pride and Prejudiceâ⬠1). In the relationship of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet it is obvious that Mrs. Bennet is consumed with the financial ability of men to take care of women. She is obsessed with her daughters being able to marry a ââ¬Å"fine suitorâ⬠who will be able to provide for them and she is even talking about the amount of money one young man makes with her husband as the story opens. Mr. Bennet seems to be concerned about his wifeââ¬â¢s beauty which would prove that he has a need and a desire to find her attractive. Mrs. Bennetââ¬â¢s only concerns for her daughters are that they be married off to wealthy men who can provide the best of life for them however she has poor public manners and many times her daughters are embarrassed by her. Also Mrs. Bennetââ¬â¢s actions really do keep some of the most suitable suitors away from her daughters as her actions are rather appalling to others and therefore they are typically wanting less to do with her daughters in fear of having to deal with her. In many parts of the novel, Mr. Bennet comments on his appreciation for Mrs. Bennetââ¬â¢s beauty, in doing so he is portraying that he is truly attracted to her and therefore he would be interested in the sexual relationships that would be available to him with his wife (Austen 213). This relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Bennet personifies the relationship that can occur when someone focuses on attraction first. This being that Mr. Bennet fell in love with how Mrs. Bennet looked without knowing what her intelligence was or whether or not they would get along. Mr. Bennet had been more concerned with these outward features than long term compatibility and in the end there were a lot of reasons to believe that this relationship was not all that it seemed to be (ââ¬Å"Pride and Prejudiceâ⬠2). In the book, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, there are many relationships that exemplify the idea that women are in relationships in order to secure stability and men are in relationships for sex. This is apparent in the relationships between Charlotte and Mr. Collins, Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy, and Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. In these relationships the women are looking for various securities whether financial, emotional or both and the men seem to be looking for the sexual benefits that will come from the relationships. Listening skills Essay
Some of the commonly believed myths about communication are that ââ¬Å"we communicate only when we want to, words mean the same to me and you, the best communication is a one way message.â⬠Some effective barriers to communication are distractions, differences in background, emotions, stress, prejudice, personality differences, all of these have an effect on communication. The three essential parts of effective speaking are getting your listenerââ¬â¢s attention, obtain the listeners interest, communicate your purpose for speaking. It is imperative to improve your listening skills because it is an essential trait to have in the business field. Half of your time is spent listening to employees, listening to instructions, and also listening to what guest want. You can improve your listening just like improving anything else listening may be the most important skill to success. One is always improving on their listening skills. Workplace civility is important because you need a peaceful environment not everyone jumping at each otherââ¬â¢s throat or making fun of each other. Also you need somewhere that you feel comfortable at somewhere that you actually want to go if you are afraid to go to work than most people wonââ¬â¢t go. The boss should deal with it if he hears that employees are making fun of each other or harassing each other and not just sit back Personally I never dealt with workplace civility because I only deal with kids and their parents but I had friends who had dealt with it that had workers make fun of them or would say stuff about the way they did stuff. If this happen if I was manager I would take the employee aside and say that Iââ¬â¢m the only one that gets to tell someone I donââ¬â¢t like what theyââ¬â¢re doing not them. Also be a good role model for good manners. If the boss is rough and mean, then everyone else has an excuse for also being rough and mean. If the boss is polite and encouraging, everyone else will likely follow in the bossââ¬â¢ footsteps. Teach civility to everyone in the workplace. Offer training on good manners and ways to show respect to colleagues.

Literature Review - Assignment Example After Chandraââ¬â¢s mother (Lillian) is bedridden, the difficult job of caring for her falls on her shoulders. She does this challenging work and the mother eventually dies in dignity. In traditional South African culture, caring for the sick fell on the wider members of the community and not just immediate relatives (Clark, 2008). This film portrays the breakdown of traditional African values in townships and their consequences for immediate relatives especially in trying moments. The film also dwells on the issue of belief in witchcraft. Traditionally, some African cultures always attributed any sickness or medical condition to black magic (Clark, 2008). Lillian is sent to a witchdoctor in the hope that the connotations she will get from the traditional doctor will heal her. Visiting the traditional doctor is a cheaper alternative to the expensive conventional treatment that is not affordable. Overall, the film shows how poverty leads to desperate

Greatest challenge facing law enforcement agencies in investigating, Essay
Greatest challenge facing law enforcement agencies in investigating, exploitation, cyberstalking, and obscenity - Essay Example These crimes include crimes related to exploitation, cyber-stalking, and obscenity, which have exposed the unpreparedness of law enforcement agencies in handling emerging crimes. In addition, law enforcement agencies face a challenge related to turf wars and jurisdiction when investigating cybercrimes. This expose investigates the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies while investigating exploitation, cyber-stalking, and obscenity. Moreover, the expose goes to the extent of proposing the solutions to the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies. First, cybercrimes have caught the attention of the world with President Obama declaring cyber crimes and threats as the ââ¬Å"most serious economic and national security challengesâ⬠faced by America in the 21st century (National Security Council, 2009). Nonetheless, experts identify implementation of policies that eliminated challenges faced by law enforcers as the first step towards eliminating cybercrimes and threats in c yber space. In this regard, experts agree that law enforcers face challenges regarding the investigation of cyber-stalking, exploitation, and obscenity. In line with this, the National Center for Victims of Crime (2004) noted that law enforcers faced challenges while investigating cyber-stalkers since stalking consists of repeated individual conduct that may not constitute a crime. In addition, law enforcers faced a challenge while investigating cyber-stalkers due to the challenging nature of identifying cyber-stalkers who will become violent. In this regard, law enforcers will face a challenge in profiling cyber-stalkers since there lacks a legal definition of cyber-stalkers and profiling them remains a challenge to date. A Congress report of 2001 identified a number of challenges that law enforcement agencies faced when investigating obscenity and exploitation. In this case, the report indicated that law enforcement agencies were ill equipped to deal with crimes of this nature sin ce criminals were sophisticated and they used advanced technology to commit these crimes. Hence, the identification of these criminals was a challenge. Moreover, the report noted that the criminal might be in a different jurisdiction and their identification did not guarantee further investigation by law enforcers. On the other hand, the report identified the challenge faced by law enforcers who investigated obscenity and exploitation by noting that the process of extracting data to investigate and prosecute obscenity and exploitation criminals remained a challenge. States, nations, and different localities draw jurisdictional boundaries between them within which various law enforcement agencies are responsible for administration of justice. Significantly, laws are only effective within the territorial boundaries of a particular jurisdiction, which is a weakness that cyber criminals identified and exploited. In the US, jurisdictional issues challenge the investigation of cyber crime s in two aspects. First, there is an underlying jurisdictional overlap between state laws and federal laws regarding the investigation of cybercrimes. In this case, Brenner and Koops (2004) noted that some state laws might not classify some aspects of a crime as
Strategic Workforce Measures Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Strategic Workforce Measures - Essay Example Differentiating workforce strategy refers to the companyââ¬â¢s management investing disproportionally in a few or a group of employees depending on their strategic contribution to the companyââ¬â¢s outcome. For instance Memorata is a shoe company that deals with manufacturing and distributing ladies footwear. In order for this company to be successful, the human resource professionals should identify the employees that place the company at a competitive advantage (Beatty, Becker, & Huselid, 2005). They should identify the team that produces the best shoes that are favored in the market. The human resource professionals should then guide the managers into investing more in this employees so as to be at an advantaged position over their competitors (Becker, Huselid , & Beatty, 2009). Differentiating the workforce has been found to be crucial as it helps to identify the best employees that will drive the company towards achieving their set strategic goals. This entails allocating more resources on these employees for the good of the company (Beatty, Becker, & Huselid, 2005). Memorata deals with both flat and heeled shoe wear. However based on the sales reports, flat shoes are preferred to their counterpart in the market. This is because they are cheaper and are affordable. More resources should therefore be geared towards this line of production as it puts them at a better position to compete favorably with the other companies dealing with ladies shoes. The Human resource professionals at Memorata should not forget to invest in the supporting employees. For instance it is not only the sales persons that are making the sale of flat shoes successful. Those behind the production of those shoes are contributing to its success as well. Therefore the HR professionals should put in mind that the supporting elements of those individuals who are considered crucial should not be left out (Becker, Huselid , & Beatty, 2009).
