Introduction The following report will investigate, analyse and formulate recommendations for improving the tools and methods that a business has put in place to help reduce waste and time in the operation management department of the business. This report will focus on the business, McDonald’s and what practices they have put in place to ensure that they are producing their products efficiently and sustainably. The business will also be compared and contrasted alongside the American fast-food restaurant chain famous for its fried chicken, providing recommendations on how McDonald’s could further improve their business in the area of waste and time management. Operational Systems The operations systems is a series of procedures and processes that an organisation manages in order to create outputs of finished goods and services. McDonald’s works toward maximum productivity in all of its business areas, however focusing on the operations management department, Macca’s has put in place 10 strategic decisions that aim to help organisation amongst the company as well reduce the amount of time and waste created through the production of their products (McDonald’s Operations Management, Lawrence Gregory, 2017). 1. Design of Goods and Services. McDonald’s goal is to provide affordable products this, however, is altered depending on the serving sizes and popularity of its products. 2. The company aims to maximise product quality through the use of production line methods to maintain product quality consistency as well as incorporating time efficiency. 3. Process and Capacity Design. McDonald’s process and capacity design are centred on efficiency for cost-minimization that supports the company’s strategies.
